Find Ancestors

I have been trying to research my Husbands tree and have been having problems almost from the start....Grandfather is Andrew Percy ROSS 1915-1990 his parents were Eliza Emma BLOW & Alexander ROSS, the 1911 census show the family living at 8 Shirley Grove Battersea London Alexander says that he is a Baker and from Scotland.
I cannot find him on the 1901 census but on the 1891 census a Alexander Ross a Baker from Scotland is living with his parents John & Grace at 26 Stewarts Rd Battersea, so from this I work back and also look at the scotlandpeople web site and find a birth for Alexander Ross Feb 1872 parents John Ross & Grace McMillan, there is a marriage between these two people in 1871 Newcastle upon Tyne.........however having got the marriage certificate of Alexander and Eliza Emma Blow it lists father as being James Ross occupation Baker..Help please where have I gone wrong. :-\

It could very well be the correct family. I have an ancestor who varied his name between John and James. I know he was definitely the same person.

Sorry should have said that the census records show that John Ross is a Gunmaker Actioner/Maker Of Gun Mechanism

In 1911 he gives Nairnshire as his birthplace so this looks like him with his parents

The 1881 Scotland census show the Alexander with parents John and Grace as being born Glasgow - so it looks as if Astra has found the correct family.

The address given on the marriage certificate is..20 Shirley Grove Battersea, the 1911 census address is 8 Shirley Grove and the address on the birth certificate of Husbands Grandfather in 1915 is 35 Shirley Grove so the Battersea area of London seems quite strong.
