I wonder if anyone can see Ada Alice Dearlove in the 1911 census?

She married Frederick Wilson Dearlove in March 1905 in Tottenham (the marriage is on Ancestry). On the cert she is listed as 28 a spinster with father George Russell Boot Maker and her husband is listed as 25 a Sweep with father also Frederick Wilson Dearlove a painter (witnesses Thomas and Annie Thompson). On the cert the wife is listed as Annie Alice Russell but she signs as Ada Alice Russell and this is the name on FreeBMD etc

I know that Frederick W Dearlove was in North Staffs Reg between 1909-16 (found from his medals card on Ancestery) and is not on the 1911 census but can’t find Ada/Annie Alice.

I am trying to trace her to to check her birthplace and to confirm that she was or was not the Ada Alice Russell born 1873 in Isington who was my husband’s Greatgrandfather’s sister.

I appreciate the age difference, but our relative took a few years off her age in 1901. Over the years after her father John Russell died in 1874, the family were in and out of the workhouse and then the majority of the siblings seem to vanish. I have the fond hope that as she never knew her father she may have given the wrong christian name

Yes Mel - that is the marriage. She is listed as Annie bur signs as Ada.

Probably very unlikely that she is the same person as the Ada I am looking for, but she just disappears in 1911

Re the 1927 marriage -- I don't see a remarriage for Alice B Dearlove, and there is this death:

which would fit with our Frederick's age, i.e. she would have been about 45 in 1927.

Margaret - Our ancester/relative Ada had John Russell as a father, and I do appreciate that the wife in 1905 lists her father as George.

Janey - I does look as though Frederick remarried so he spilt up from his first wife or she died

I can't find a death for Annie or Ada Dearlove to fit -- but they may have been estranged and her death may hae been registered under a new partner's surname.

They could already have been estranged by 1911, if that were the case, and this Annie/Ada, whoever she was, might appear in 1911 under a partner's surname.

Was your Ada Alice's mother by any chance an Ada? I just wonder because using both given names in a census often suggests the person went by a middle name, which is common when the given name was the same as the parent's.

There was a marriage in Lincs between Ada A Dearlove and William h Guttridge in 1935.

Is this the parents of your Ada?
John W S B Russell 1836-1874 and Frances Priestley 1840.

According to a tree on Ancestry their daughter Ada Alice 1873 had a daughter Edith Russell 14/3/1899 they also give the same 1901 census with ada as a servant!!

No - her mother's name was Fanny or Frances. She died in Highgate Infirmary in approx 1902

FWD gave his father's name as the same as his when he married.

Clear sign of a fabricated father. ;-)

Thanks - I wondered if she would have remarried so late. As you say they may just have spilt and she found a new partner pre 1911.

The Russells in London drive me to distraction with their ability to disappear. Over half her siblings vanished!

So is she the same Ada Alice who had edith russell 1899.Edith married 6/4/1918 to Phillip Holmes born islington 1893.They had 2 sons.

I can't find Edith 1901 or 1911.
She was born in Islington Workhouse 14/3/1899.

Ada had 6 siblings but I can't find them 1881 only a Ada Alice in workhouse.

On 1871 census for John and Fanny does it say proffesion Working jeweller??

Mary - The tree you found is correct and is a relative's. John W was my husband's great grandfather and as the eldest was lucky to be working when their father died and kept out of the workhouse
