Looking for further details of James Carden b1875 (name spelt Cardon in birth entry) father of James Patrick Carden b1907 in the Leeds, Yorkshire area. Believe James was married to Sarah Ann Moore and Mary Ann Haley and that he died in 1923. In particular, need help to go back beyond James' 1875 birth - cannot find any relatives for him at all. Thanks.

Hi Susan I believe this is your James & Sarah in 1911 & 1901 Susan have you seen James military records yet ie WW1 and I think he was in the Army aged 18 as per 1891 Census before he married Sarah.

Susan, you say that believe James was married to Sarah and Mary Ann. Do you have any of the children's birth certs to confirm these MMNs?
Also, do you have either of James's marriage certs? This would give his father's name and occupation.
It is very easy to follow the wrong line if events are not confirmed by certs.

Really don't understand your "can't find any relatives"...
If you know this to be your James' birth then the certificate would give you his parents.
Births Mar 1875 CARDON James - Leeds 9b 480
Father's name could be cross checked against marriage cert

I guess you've not ordered any certs yet?
Even though this says two of the children were born in Ireland,I'm a little suspicious because of how well the names and births match up to those Carden ones in Leeds. Could just be a coincidence,of course.

You'd be well advised to get the 1900 marriage cert, to find out if he knew his father's details

Thanks to all who have responded - it is true that we don't have any certificates beyond the generation born in the 1960s. There are no family papers and very little remembered. Some of your information was already discovered (without vertification as yet) and some makes for further interesting research. We will pursue ideas from Ian and Maureen, which we had not found previously. Thanks again, Sue
