I am trying to locate the birthplace of my grandfather also his parents. I cannot find anything before 1901.We were lead to believe that he lived in Skipton, Yorkshire and ran away to London at the age of 14yrs? The Criminal register 1791-1892 does have a 14yr old William Best found not quilty of "shooting with intent to maim" on 29/4/1881 so I thought this may be a reason to run away. Would they have his address? Another family member thinks she can remember something about him being a "twin" the other sibling and mother died in Childbirth? So far no joy there. I haven't found a marriage cert. so maybe not married. If there is anyone who could suggest looking elsewhere I would appreciate any help I can get. My father said his father never spoke about his past or the names of his parents. :-S |
