If the grandmother died in 1972 then the lease is for a 100 years from 1972..

I would ask at the cemetery for the full records for May Lewis and which funeral director was used..

Hello Marie,
It may well be that the lease on the grave had expired so the council bereavement services would have the right to use the plot to bury someone else not necessarily connected to your family.

Hi everyone who is helping thanks , The full factual information I have is this, My grandfather died in 1948 age 62 and was buried in leigh cemetery (Lancashire/) on12th april 1948 my grandmother died July 1972 age 86 and was buried 27th July 1972 I got this information from the cemetery records and they told me that also in that grave is May Lewis age 55 buried 13th May 1986. I have visited the site and there is no head stone. according to my cousin the grave was also meant to be for his parents but they were both cremated and he has no idea either who May could be . we have no known relatives that it could be , I dont know who would have the grave papers now I assume my uncle would have had them when my grandmother died it is possible he gave them to someone else when he knew he wouldnt be buried there but he has gone now so I guess I will never know thanks to all for your help Marie

You haven't even said how you know that this woman is in the grave............

We can't help unless you are prepared to be a bit more forthcoming

Which of your grandparents died first?

You could be waiting a very long time for a relative to see your post I'm affraid

If you do not want to give us the details of your grandparents, see if you can find any family members by using the search trees

Thank you all for the replies . I had found the birth of May Grimes and a marriage to albert Lewis but I wonder how a stranger comes to be buried in this grave , My granparents die in 1948 qnd 1972 I assume my uncle would have the grave papers but he is now dead the gravespace was meant for him and his wife but they were both cremated and there son doesnt know anything about May either, I was hoping some relative or friend would be a genes member Thanks to all anyway :-

is this a private grave ?when was your grandmother buried.Maybe the lease has been reassigned to another family, this does happen if there are places in the grave unused and the lease to the original family had expired.

I would get the death cert !!

Is there a headstone?

If so, what does it say about this woman?

The woman's death cert will include her maiden name.......if she'd been married

When did your grandparents die?

jax
