Neither one born in County, but I cannot read the occupation

Having looked at the 1841 that Julia posted, I don't think there is actually an occupation stated for James. The occupation given for John looks like merchant.

I can't see any other James Tattersall with a similar birth year in the 1841 or 1851. However, there is another one appears in 1861 in London who is a carpenter from Lancs.

The James that Julia and Gordi found seems to have become a tailor by 1861.

only a wild guess but if your James was a joiner it is a trade that is often also father's trade

We can only look if we have a bit more info than just his birth year. We now know his wife and some of his children but do they reflect any names of his parents or siblings please?
