Mike * ,

After the 1881 census I can't see the Bristow family...... until Margaret (Margret) shows up in Salford with the married couple.

Hi Maxine,

I would think tht the occupation Boiler Scaler is in a similar line as Chimney Sweep.

Who were the witnesses to the marriage?

I'm trying to find out about James Bristow, born 1881 Liverpool, Lancashire.
I'm not sure of his parents name, other than his father is stated as Joseph on his marriage certificate, when he married Annie Johnson in 1908 in West Ham, Essex.
James and his father Joseph are both stated as boiler scalers.
I have a James Bristow on the 1911 census with wife Annie and Mother Margaret Bristow, widow. Her maiden name may be Fearns, but i'm not sure as yet.
I have a Joseph and Margaret Bristow on various census, with sons James and Joseph. But his occupation is Chimney cleaner or some times chimney sweep. Would a chimney cleaner be classed as a boiler scaler.?
Is anyone related to my Bristow's who can confim that this is the right family or help me with any information to put me in the right direction.
thanks Maxine
