Find Ancestors

Can anyone help please, I am trying to find information on my mothers half brother who was fostered out as my mother was at a young age. My mother remembers him being called jimmy but this may have been a nickname or maybe a middle name (as in James) and may have been born in the croydon area of london,as was my mother (whose name was Betty Margaret Woods). Their mother nellie later married a Frederick Wheatley. She was single when both my mother and her half brother were born. He was about 7/8 years younger than my mother (she was born in 1921). So if anyone can suggest where I may find out more information I would be very grateful. Mary.

Without his full name it is really looking for a needle in a haystack with such a common name as Woods...
The one I posted is just one that I picked out as being right time,right area and has a J as a second initial.....
The only way to find out is to send for the births that MAY be his and that could be expensive at £9.25p a time...

Also just to add Mary that your Title post is a little confusing as you are looking for your mothers brother born c1928 I think and not Nellie...Or are you looking for help to try and find her birth and parents too?

But looking at where your mother was born and her mother married Mr Wheatley it does seem a possibility that the birth I have posted might just be worth sending for as there is no James Or any other birth with second initial of J in that area at that time?
