Finding family in the 1940's

thanks so much for your replies. I am new to this, and in my estimation the only information I put down was the family surname and the year of 1940...no Christian names, addresses, other dates, nothing! I am really confused as to why this was reported!?

By mistake I may have clicked the send button twice, but not to my knowledge. :-\

with kind regards to you all...

Sandra

You could have a point there, Chrissie.............

I've seen instances of members being abused for offering very sensible advice about duplicate postings.etc.

Of course, the 'review' option has always been there - it's just that the way it operates has changed since the recent 'improvements' by GR

I wonder whether someone isn' t so tired of being spoken sharply to for advising people not to post duplicate / multiple threads that they have decided not to say that in the thread anymore and just report the thread ... as I remember from before my sub expired sometimes it seemed like no matter how simply someone did that there was always someone else complaining about it ...

I don't think just reporting is the best approach, let alone reporting both the original and the duplicate, that's just foolish.

Flick

Flick Report 17 Jun 2011 23:05

The original posting had no sensitive info.........only a surname

The 'duplicate' was obviously a 'double-click' ....nothing more sinister than that.

Heaven only knows why someone thought it necessary to have it 'reviewed'.....................

chrissiex Report 17 Jun 2011 22:42

well one thing for sure , I think ....... having your post reported means that _more_ people will read the thread !

Sandra if you come back -- for now, best to delete the other thread and just go ahead and add another message here ( 'Add reply' down at the bottom ) and repeat the question and maybe answer Jonesey's question

don't add personal information about people born as late as 1940 for instance, but if you do know of events like that just say what they were and people can advise then.

If it was just one person who has requested a review of both of Sandra's posts then they are quite obviously a rather pathetic individual incapable of using their imagination to evaluate why the post may have been duplicated.

Both of Sandra's posts were made within seconds of one another on the same message board. It is perfectly obvious to anyone of reasonable intelligence that Sandra only intended to post once. Probably due to the current instability and slowness of the site itself Sandra simply pressed the submit button a second time thinking that her first push of the submit button had not registered.

I don't know Christine as I did not see the original post but we DO seem to have a probable 'trouble maker' in our midst at the moment reporting loads of harmless threads.

Don't worry Sandra - stick with it - GR are working on sorting out this problem and I am sure that your message will come back soon.

Don't let it put you off - we are here to try to help.

I think this is as I suspected

Sandra you posted the same thing twice

I think probably because the site is very slow and you clicked 'submit' twice

I added to your other thread

http://www.genesreunited.co.za/boards.page/board/ancestors/thread/1271823

but you did not return to look at replies in a short time

so someone has reported _both_ of the threads as duplicates now

>> which makes no sense

one is the original and one is a duplicate

I put my note in the other one because it had no replies asking you to delete it.

I did not report either one !!

Why does it say this post has been requested for review?

Flick

Flick Report 17 Jun 2011 16:11

No ER's in WW2, as you know.

For ER's either side, contact the main library for the area.....BUT.....you have to know the address. It is not possible to search by name.

That is a bit tricky because as you correctly say things such as electoral registers were not complied during the war years.

Are you aware of any births, marriages or deaths that may have occurred involving a family member during the 1940's? If any such events did occur then the certificates relating to the event may show the exact address that the family member was living at the time.

If you know of any births, marriages or deaths that took place in the family around that time their BMD cert may help.

Can anyone help please?
I am trying to trace where my family, Cooper, lived in the 1940's (family home). I have ideas on the exact town, so how do I go about this please. I realise that during the war records were rare, but either side of the war would be good.

Help appreciated.

Thankyou, Sandra :-)
