hi tree folk,
i'm hoping for some advice regarding a skeleton in the closet - i've recently discovered that my gt gt grandmother mary ann horsfall was convicted with murder -sentenced 29th july 1891 birmingham court. she was sent to "broadmoor prison for the criminally insane" where she remained until her death in 1933. i'm interested in finding out more details of the case, including who she murdered!
i've written to b'ham law courts but got no reply - does anyone know where i could find any records/if i'd be allowed access to them etc.

The Birmingham Library may have the Papers for that time,maybe an email to them if you can not go yourself...But they may charge a search fee...

Apparently B'ham have -

'Birmingham Quarter Sessions records date from 1838 and magistrates’ courts/petty sessions records are available from the end of the 19th century (please note, we have no Assize court records).'

There is a small newspaper article covering the matter. Sadly she was tried for the murder of her son John T Horsfall.
