Thanks Joy, his occupation was given as general labourer, but I guess he was also born in the Irish Republic. Peter

Thank you chrissiex. The marriage certificate shows his age as 25 his father is listed as deceased and he was also named Peter Walsh.

As you have your parents' marriage certificate, that will give the name and occupation of your father's father; then you could look on the (free) 1911 census for him; that may help.

Hello All.
I am looking for some advice on how I may progress a long stuck search. I am looking for my father (Peter Walsh) and his family. I tried many times over the years to get a lead on him and I have always drawn a blank. I have very little information on him. I have my parent’s marriage certificate (1946), the divorce decree nisi granted in 1954 due to his desertion, a letter fragment showing a Dublin address found in my mother’s effects after her death and an old photo. I do know he was born in the Irish Republic probably around 1920. My parents met and married in the UK. My family name is common in Ireland which hasn’t helped my search. I have tried his employer who he worked for in 1946, the London brick company but they no longer have any records. I approached a genealogist in Dublin but they were not interested in my case. The library were very helpful but also drew a blank. To be honest, I had given up on it but I have watched a couple of episodes of Long Lost Family and it rekindled the longing to know my roots. I would be grateful for any ideas or is it a lost cause. Thanks in advance.
Peter
