Find Ancestors

sorry for the lack of info here, but im hoping someone finds something that i may have missed, here goes....

name..auguste guttin
born..date unknown (poss paris or siene)
married..1906 liverpool
spouse..kathleen byrne

this is all i have to go on so i know its a long shot, but any help with regards to his birth, death, any kids. it is rumoured that he worked for cunard, so merchant navy i presume.

if you get his marriage certificate it should tell you his age and his father' s name, do you have that ?

if you found the marriage at freebmd it gives you the information you need for ordering the marriage certificate.

His name appears 17 times on the Ellis Island site. I just looked at the first one. It was 1919. he was 43, a chef aboard the "Royal George" from Liverpool.

i have not looked into the siblings yet

Darrell I see you don' t have any of them in your family tree here !

don' t forget to do that because that is how related people find you

you can find all the births of the 4 daughters at freebmd

in fact all you need to do there ( or in a census or any index ) is search for the surname Guttin ( that's what I did for 1911, they were the only ones)

then if you search at freebmd just for births with mother Guttin no other information needed the first two are children of the two daughters who married, I think there may be more births later that are seen at Ancestry

only one person has the name Guttin in a tree here at Genes and she is in Ontario , maybe it is a French Canadian name too.

thanks for the tips chrissiex, when i first started doing the family tree thing, i made many mistakes, so i started again with a tree builder and using ancestry.co.uk which is my main source of info, i deleted my tree on here and uploaded a corrected one from my tree builder. i update the genes reunited one periodically when i know its the correct info :-D

you arehaving trouble finding them because there are none :-)

there is not one death record in England or Wales for the family name 'Guttin'

it could be that they changed the surname if it seemed 'foreign' or even German

the 1901 census of Canada at Ancestry shows a Guttin family in Ontario Canada that I think is about the same place as the Guttin in a family tree here at Genes ...... the father' s name is Adolph ........

the 1920 census of the United States at Ancestry shows a number of Guttins ..... some of their names could be French .......


unfortunately since there were no sons of Auguste we can' t see whether the surname survived ...... it is 'Guttin' on the two daughters' children' s births

if Auguste travelled so frequently on board ship maybe he died outside England

I wonder whether the Andre Guttin who married in 1919 was related ?

also an Ida C Guttin married the same quarter as Auguste' s daughter Celina ........... but she was older that his children
