could anyone help find birth for John Grant born 1852 in Glasgow or edinburgh father James Grant mother Margaret Black

Civil registration in Scotland did not start until 1855.

Try looking for a baptism....................either on the IGI, or on Scotland's people site

Had a good look IGi is best best I went on to SP and as Flick says they start at 1855 but leave it posted and for others who may have some incite where to look xxx <3

1861 Scotland census has no record of a John Grant matching your info.............

Could you tell us how you got back to John..................

Hi Flick will contact Edna she is my Step Mother and ask her to return. What I do know is she was born Grant and john is a direct ancestor and she has been using certificates to track back so may be thro the certs.x
