thank you Chrissie,
you were a great help and i will keep all my bromage/ bromwich in this post now.
its a bit upsetting really as it does seem they were not married. i don't know how my father in law Ronald Stanley Wheat would like it but i suppose it was a good thing that William wheat and Clara gave him his name. :-)
thanks again.

please could someone tell me how and why the name bromage changed to bromwich. it has made my tree confusing.

Margee Report as Abuse 15 Jun 2010 17:46

Did it actually change or was it mistranscribed? Remember, in days gone by, most people couldn't read or write so they didn't know if their name was mis-spelled. Phonetically the name is the same.

marmar Report as Abuse 15 Jun 2010 18:54

I have looked up some of the family and they are a mixture of spelling. in the same family.

brummiejan Report as Abuse 15 Jun 2010 20:24

MargaretM. is right, there were no standardised spellings in the past and you see all sorts of variations. One of the things which gives us a challenge! Names will vary for the same people on different records. Try saying them out loud and you can see why.

but really that does seem to be a different thread , and there are some more ...............

I see the birth Wheat/Bromage birth 1913. Chances are they didn't marry really.

Gosh...........you received a lot of info on that thread today.

Have you looked in "My Threads" to see if it is there?

I can't see a marriage for either of those names between the dates you give.

Are you certain that they married?
