Find Ancestors

I am trying to trace Henry Davies, he was born c1854 in Cripplegate. He married an Eliza Egrsdorff in 1871/1872 and his marriage certificate stated that his father was Thomas Davies, a cap maker.

The address at the time of his marriage is just written as 'Bethnal Green'.

thought it would be easy to find him, but I'm having a little trouble...

How do you know what was stated on the marriage certificate if you do not know what year it was?

I have Henry in 1881, 1891, 1901 and 1911.

I can't find him on 1871 or previous. His marriage certificate said he was 20, his wife was actually 17 when she married opposed to 19 on eher certificate. So Henry was born anywhere between 185- and 1854.

patchem: the 1881 census is Henry and Eliza. They only had one child who was Thomas in 1873.
Also, Henry Davies was a hat maker in 1901...I will look into Thomas and Maria just to be sure that Henry in 1846 wasn't a previous son before my Henry.

Ann: Eliza in 1816 would be Henry's wife's aunt. :)

Might this be a possibility -that he was baptised and registered as David Henry Davies but used only Henry on marrriage and later censuses?
