Hi folks, will look at parish records but they are few and far between unless I am looking in the wrong places. How did I find him in the first place? Took me ages. It is a long story and still in the main is a mystery. Still, keeps me interested. Thomas was one of three. Thomas, Lily and Ellen the youngest. By 1901 there were all living with their mother Elizabeth Richards who had married Thomas Belgin and living in Pontypridd. It has been a family mystery as to who the father is of any of them! I posted a thread the other week trying to find Martha who turned out to be Martha Moxham She was the great aunt of the children and of course the aunt of Elizabeth. She was found to be Martha Jenkins originally and her sister was Ann. Ann married John Richards and they were the parents of Elizabeth. I then traced Elizabeth to 232 Cowbridge Road, Canton(1891 census) and to my surprise she was living with a Greek sailor but had taken his name of Comatos. Can find no record of him and assumed he went away. At this time Ellen was there but no sign of young Thomas. I also know they were all born Richards as in the letter from Martha that started all this. I had the address from Lily's birth certificate . She was born in October 1891 so that explains why she was not on the census. Anyway, by going back to the Jenkins's I found that Ann, Elizabeths mother, was widowed and had remarried John Jenkins which is why I suspect that Thomas is really the son of Elizabeth and not Ann. I am now giggling quietly to myself cos I realise this is so long and complicated no one could possible help!.....and I dont even think I've explained it at all well. Anyway, at least I know that you cannot see names before ordering the certs. I thought once that you could. LOL cheers, Ken

Hi Ken. Firstly, you can't see paents' names before sending for a cert. How have you come by Thomas in the first place? I am wondering if you can access his marriage cert for example. Jan

Have you looked at local parish records to see whether you can spot the baptism of a Thomas Richards/Jones?

Help needed. I am trying to find the birth of the Thomas below but as there are so many I am not sure where to begin. Also, I strongly suspect that Thomas was the grandson of John and Ann and not the son. His mother was Elizabeth Richards who was living in Cardiff. We had always been led to believe that Thomas was born Thomas Richards in Cardiff, Barry to be exact, but all the Thomas Richards's born at this time seem to be accounted for. Ann Jones is the mother of Elizabeth but was widowed and remarried hence the Jones. She was originally Ann Jenkins, father Elias. Is there any way to see the names of the possible parents before sending off for the certificate. Not sure if this is clear?!
