Hi all

can anyone find me the grave of Edwin KIMPTON my gtgt grandfather.

He died in Hulme Barracks, Manchester on the 12 Dec 1879 age 40

I have his birth certificate, marriage certificate and his Death record however, his burial is elusive

St George Hulme and Southern Cemetery searches have revealed that according to the records he is not buried in those burial grounds.

Look forward to any help

Is this his birth:-

Name: KIMPTON, Edwin
Registration District: Barnet
County: Middlesex
Year of Registration: 1839
Quarter of Registration: Jul-Aug-Sep
Mother's Maiden Name: Not available before 1911 Q3
Volume No: 6
Page No: 441

If so perhaps he was buried near to where he was born.

I presume he was in the Army at the time and it looks as if he was born in Barnet?

Do you think that the Army may have transported him home to be buried?

OOpps - Sorry Kath, I didn't notice that you had already put forward that suggestion. - Great minds think alike eh? :-D

Send a PM to Victor who kindly offers NBI lookups.

I would agree with the suggestion that he would probably have been returned to his home - not necessarily where he was born, but almost certainly to where his NOK was living.

Yes thats his birth in 1839

He was a Sgt Maj in the 1st Royal Dragoon Guards

He married Charlotte MATES in 1866 in Manchester then left promplty for service in Army Barracks in Ireland. His wife went with him
They were in Ireland until 1874 moved to Hamilton Scotland, and finally Charlotte is located as a widow in 1881 in Sussex.
His death cert in 1879 states he died in Hulme Barracks Manchester
It is possible he went home to Sussex or Barnet

Are you aware that there is somebody on Ancestry with Edwin on their tree ?

Tr4ceGenealogy

Tr4ceGenealogy Report 25 Jun 2011 10:43

Charlotte is buried in Broadwater, Worthing Sussex. She died in 1919

Edwin is NOT buried in that cemetery

One mystery
Charlotte gave birth to an Elizabeth in 1882
Elizabeth died in 1893 of Typhoid

her death certificate states Edwin as her father. Edwin died in 1879?

We think Charlotte claimed he was dad for her name and possible pension monies

Have you tried Lancs FHS, they may have something on their Memorial Inscriptions database. If not then maybe try Sussex or Middlesex ?

Hi there,

Firstly, to send a pm, all you do is go to Victor's thread (If it isn't on page 1 of the board, I will nudge it up for you).

You click on his name and a box comes up to type your message into and then click send at the bottom.

secondly, unfortunately, you cannot see the messages 'come up live' on here, you must refresh your page.
