Hi can anyone help me with this one please? I am visiting Newcastle and Durham next month and would like to visit the church where my grandfather was baptised, i have the following details:
name George Couldon
date 1898
place Elswick Newcastle
parents Richard Stobart Coulson
Elizabeth
How would I find out which church it is likely to be and is it possible to see any records there maybe.
I have been planning this trip for a while and now find it upon me and I seem to have very little information.

I have census infromation but no idea of where to start to visit these places and I am now beginning to panic Help please? :-S

In which Parish were they living in 1901?

The odds are that he was baptised in that one.............

Hi Flick
Hope I'm not being stupid, does this mean the church will be St Pauls?

I think this may be the church you want:-

Elswick Parish of St Stephen and St. Paul
Clumber Street
Newcastle Upon Tyne
NE4 7ST

(0191) 2734 680

You could always phone them before you go and see if they have the records you want or if they are held at the County Records Office. I think this may be a new church but they may know where the records are.

I think contacting them beforehand is a must, if you hope they have records.

Also the Northumberland & Durham Family History Society would be a good place to start: http://www.ndfhs.org.uk

Hello June,

The baptism records for St. Paul's (1885-1969) are held with the Northumber Archives Services. Simply click on this link below for further details. You may be able to arrange how you may view the handwritten records.
