I have just found my grandfather on the 1911 census - the spelling of his name is wrong but it is him. The problem is I don't understand what he is doing as a Stoker. Looks like he was in service somewhere but I can't make head or tail of it. Is he on a ship or what. What is the address.

Hope somebody on Find my Past will be able to find out more

Can somebody help please

Susanne

Yes that is him

I have all his records from birth baptism marriages through to death.
Yes it looks like a ship. I know the port my nephew is in service around there.
The address is very vague - usually there is a sign off
What ship

He is a Stoker in the Royal Navy, and at the time of the census he was in the barracks at Chatham, not on a ship

Person: WOOLRIDGE, Claude
