Find Ancestors

Hello
I'm in thr process of confirming information i've gained from relations and I'm stuck with a couple of births. Albert Field b 1888 and Mary Sherwood b 1900 had five children, Peter b 1928 Ottershaw, Derek b 1930 Chersey, Gladys b 1932 Chertsey, Roy b 1935 Chertsey and Clifford b 1938 Chertsey.

Peter died in 1985 and from the records I can confirm a birth date of 18/02/1928 but I can't find a corresponding birth entry. Likewise I'm unable to find an entry for Clifford despite searching other years and without a first name. I've also searched using the mothers surname as the parents didn't marry.

I've looked here on genes reunited and on freebmd.org.uk.

Can anyone help please? :-S

What surname did the children use?

Yes she was Mary Louisa Sherwood but used the name Field and was recorded in the deaths as Mary L Field.

As she didn't marry Field, an earlier marriage is the probable explanation

Did you KNOW Mary had been married???

The children were registered as Field or at least Derek, Gladys and Roy were. I have found these 3 on Free BMD Derek b Dec 1930 Chertsey 2a 114
Gladys b Dec 1932 Chertsey 2a 131 and Roy b Sept 1935 Surrey NW 2a 489.

I received the information from one of the son's and I was just confirming it all which is where I hit the problems. I wanted to make sure I've covered all aspects before going back to him as it may be something he is unaware of?!

I had no idea Mary had been married before and that would certainly explain the birth of Peter being under a different name. Clifford at the other end of the timeline is still a mystery though.

On the same page in the Index - I think you need to get some birth certs because it looks as if at least Gladys is indexed under both names:

No sign of Clifford.......you'll need to get more info from whoever your source is............

This has been interesting - I think I'll have to tread carefully or find a different way around it. I certainly wouldn't want to cause any problems. many thinks to all of you who came up with ideas and records. It will keep me busy for a while. x
