Can anyone help? I have been looking for the military records of my ancestor GEORGE MARSHALL, Born in OAKE Somerset about 1786. His death certificate has him down as a Greenwich Pensioner and farm labourer. I have tried searching at the Public Record Office, Kew, but without success. I know he married in 1836 to Sarah Stacey in Hillfarrence , Somerset and then had a family. He lived there til he died in1862. Thank you

Vera, many thanks for your input. you have the right George. I've hit a brick wall with regards to the Greenwich Pensioner bit. I would love to know how and where he served. Best wishes, marmet

Have a look at the Research Guide to RN pensioners on the TNA site. Plenty of options there for research if you didn't search all of these references at Kew.

He could also have served in Royal Marines if he was a Greenwich Pensioner. Research Guide is here
