Trying to find the birth/death registration for a stillborn girl - born sometime between July 1940 and May 1945 (birth dates of her sisters) in York.

Surname Walker, mother's maiden name Barker. My mum thinks she could have been called Maria or Christine.

Stillborn births are not registered the same as live births. Their details are kept in a seperate register and are only accessible to the parent or direct next of kin.

Still birth register is a separate register and isnt open to the general public. It can be viewed by the next of kin if they prove their connection and the birth parents are both deceased.

Both parents are deceased - the baby would have been my mum's sister.

Where would she apply?

you would need to contact the General Register Office at Southport,

Order a stillbirth certificateDue to the sensitive nature of stillbirth registrations, only the mother or father of the child is able to apply for a certificate. The parent must be named on the birth certificate to do this. Should the parents be deceased, a brother or sister can apply if they can provide their parents’ dates of death.
How long will it take?
Your certificate is sent within 15 days of receipt of your application.
How to order the certificate
To obtain an application form for a stillbirth certificate, you can either telephone or write to the General Register Office.
