Sorry again..Typo...........WILLIAM MEE married Charlotte Buxton.....and probably came from Market Bosworth..etc etc....

..and since girls usually got married in their own Parish (as Mary did at Church Gresley 1834)....before being swept away into another Parish..ie. in this case Stapenhill, by the lustful swain..it is likely that

MARY ORGILL was baptised at Church Gresley 02.08.1812 daughter of William Orgill and Mary nee Woodward.........

Hi Derek,
I am now confused, how can Robert Mee be the son of William Orgill ?

Thanks everybody for your very kind assistance.....am now going to shut down for the night and rest my brain!

Derek, the Potter occupation connection is probably significant with the clay industry being around the Gresley area and he was possibly lodging with prospective in-laws at Stapenhill. The Belper info looks very promising.

Once again, many thanks to you all.

Hi Brian........WILLIAM MEE married CHARLOTTE BUXTON 21.07.1806 at Duffield..and had five children including Robert......

I don't know how well you know the area..But the Parish is Duffield.and places such as Belper,Heanor and Heage are all in the parish of Diffield....Thus Robert Mee is variously described as being born in Heage..Belper or Duffield........he certainly was not born at Stapenhill or Newhall.............and the entry on IGI of his birth at Stapenhill is a "submitted" entry..and is false...

William Mee.appears also as a "submitted" entry as being born at Duffield..this may be equally false..because the MEE family tree on Ancestry shows him as coming from Market Bosworth in Leics..and all their other information is accurate..so......

Derek.

Hi Brian,
This is another site for Stapenhill/Stanton & Newhall. Baptisms for 1780's include Orgill surname but there are no Mee's.

Thanks Derek, thought Stapenhill for his birth was a no-no.
Was wife Mary the Potter or her father?

Brian..had a qick flip through the Stapenhill Parish Records..and there are no MEE Baptisms or Burials there........but I have found something you may or may not know:-

MARY MEE re-married after Robert died...........married GEORGE ENSOR..01.10.1866 at Stapenhill..she is described as having a Father named Orgill and is a Potter by trade.

There is another MARY MEE marriage 23.05.1831 to William Giliver....the dates suggest a possibility od her beeing a brother of Robert's?

Hi Astra

buried 22/08/1850 at St.Johns, Newhall,Derbys(which was under Stapenhill parish at that time I believe) and his age was stated as 41.

Belper birth is a possibility as only about 20 miles away.

Hello Brian..I have a couple of Derbyshire Threads on GR..and loads of |Derbyshired records..including the PR's for Stapenhill and for Church Gresley..........I haven't looked properly yet,,but there are two possibilities for the Birth of Robert Mee

at Heage Independent..born 01.10.1808..baptised 15.12,1808..son of William and Charlotte............and since Stapenhill is mentioned ,,there is another birth at Stapenhill 1811..depends really how sure you are of his birth date.......will get back to you..

Have come to a dead end and would appreciate any assistance in locating parents of Robert Mee from, probably, South Derbyshire area.
If his age on death in 1850 at Newhall, Derbyshire is correct, then he would have been born about 1809.
He was a Potter and married Mary Orgill 5/8/1834 at Church Gresley, Derbys and he was stated to be residing in Stapenhill, Derbys(subsequently Stapenhill has been moved to Staffordshire).

Many thanks in advance.

Brian
