HI Persie & Helen
What wonderful people you are to carry on helping me. Tongues were the peple who told me Matilda arranged the funeral and in their words "she married John in Auckland one year before his death and that he had been in NZ for just 12 years and was born in Hove, New Brighton, UK" so thats why I thought they were married in May 1969. Going by their info on age I still cannot find his birth date and also going by the travel info to NZ which says born 10-4-1910 UK but this does tally with the age at death.Tongues were given the info by Matilda so it could be wrong. His marriage before Matilda was in Hove, Sussex, UK. I found New Brighton and also Brighton now looking for Hoves. The cert gives scope for 1909-1911 for birth date band it says his father was William Edward Morton, I have sent for certs but they are all wrong. What happens in our records office is you give names and dates to check and the first one they come across that matches any part of what you have given them in that quarter year they send you they do not continue in that quarter and look for the exact name match you have given them in that quarter so you have to keep applying so it takes alot of time and money. Of course sometimes you could be lucky and get the right one . All good fun this searching I thought how hard can it be but I now know you have to be a really good detective to do this, its taking me ages to get the hang of it but with such good people on line I am learning all the time Kind Regards Georgey

Hi Georgey,
The divorce that is mentioned above is their divorce.
Matilda Lilian Wright and John Morton were married in 1968.
She reverted to the name Wright and died in NZ 5 August 1985... on the death register it gives her date of birth as 16 April 1902... There is no Matilda Lilian Wright born on that date in NZ... but then again she may have been married to someone with the surname Wright and that may not be her birth name. There are a lot of Wrights to get through I am up to over half way through the C...... Wrights checking marriages between 1920 and 1956.
Not sure where to go after that... I will try and find out where she died... I have checked the Auckland Cemetery records and she is not buried in any of them.
I will keep it on the back burner and let you know if I find out anything else.
cheers Persie.

I have checked the marriages from 1970 to 1980 to see if she remarried.
She was not living in Papatoetoe in 1972.. checked the electoral roll for then as well.
I will go and look through the 1969 records later this week re her maiden name...she may have reverted back to this..
Cheers Persie

Hi Persephone,
Johns marriage before Matilda was in the UK. John had lived in Auckland for many years but I do not know if Matilda was from NZ. Her last address was in Papatoetoe in 1970. John was aged 60 when he died in 1970 so she may have married again and she may have been married before John. Any help is very much appreciate.
Kind Regards Georgey

Hi Cherilyn
John Morton married a Matilda in 1969 John died in May 1970 and the funeral place told me he had been married for just a year to Matilda. Matilda was the one who sorted out the funeral and thats all I know about her.
Thanks for your look-up, I am not ruling anything out yet.
Kind Regards Georgey

I found that as well Cherilyn, went to post and it disappeared and my modem has been out all afternoon.
Looks like them...
Do you want me to go to the CBD and check the microfiche in our main library Georgey and see if she married again?
Did they marry and divorce same year? I could check the preceding years from 1969 back to see when they got married... I take lists from time to time to the city and check out for people.
"lady" Persephone .... cheers Tony

Hi Georgey.
Australian bdm's are listed and index'd by States and Territories ( being such a large country )
Victoria New South Wales Queensland South Australia Western Australia Tasmania Canberra ( A.C.T ) Northern Territory
Some State bdm's are searchable on-line.........pending which state/part of Aussie you are searching in, but again only up to certain years.
I have a help thread on "Genealogy Chat" forum for "Australian Research Tips " that might be of help? ( link below )
http://www.genesreunited.com.au/boards.page/board/genealogy_chat/thread/1164799
If you get stuck or need help, then start a new thread with the wording "Australia" in your heading..... ie: Australian help needed. There are many Aussie's doing lookups in Australia on GR ( including myself ) Its always helpful to add what State/Part of Australia you are searching in.( if known ) Australian index'd deaths list parents of a deceased person/s....so always helpful if you know and add the parents names of any deaths you might require.
Good luck.
Tony ( Victoria, Australia ) :-)

Hi Georgey.
I doubt that you will find a link or source that show Marriages as late as 1969 in New Zealand. There privacy act ( re: bdm's ) is as strict as my own country "Australia".....if not stricter. Access to bdm's in NZ for the general public are early Colonial/Historical, and anything later fall under the NZ privacy laws. To access NZ records after this time, i think you need to be a NZ citizen.
Below is a link you can "click" on that might be useful regarding FH in New Zealand, and what is available.
There is a lady "Persephone" on this thread who lives in NZ.....that can do marriage lookups....but only up to 1956.
