Looking for Merrick

Wendy Report 4 Jul 2011 07:34

I have been trying to find my great grandfather George Henry Merrick.
He was born around 1866.. His age on the cert is 26 years

I have a marriage certificate of his and Clara Amelia Williamson's marriage - May 10th 1892 in Leeds

George Henry was a member of the medical staff and lived in the 'Barracks'

It shows his father as being George Merrick ( horse dealer)
Clara's father was Edward Williamson and he was a supervisor.

I would like to find out George Henry's birth date so that I might be able to get his birth certificate to go further back in my search.

Can anyone please help?

Just a thought Wendy - have you possibly misread that marriage cert as it shows Clara's father as Edward (deceased) - occupation ENGINEER !

Looking at the original image of the 1871 census and comparing it with the 1881, i would say that Morgan (and there is no birth registered for that name) is actually Mary Ann.

Wendy Report 4 Jul 2011 08:34

Funny, but I thought that 'Morgan' was a very unusual name for those times :-)
I guess that the writing is sometimes hard to read and you can make mistakes ...like supervisor for engineer ! :-D
