Find Ancestors

Can anyone help???

My great grandmother had a brother named Joseph Eastwood born abt 1878 in Lancashire he married a lady named Edna surname unknown my great grandmother was Mary Eastwood. Iam searching for any info that would help me with this branch of my tree.

Can't see a marriage to anyone called Edna.
Did he marry in Lancashire ?

Do you know the names of any of their children ?

You need to be a bit more specific re. birthplace. Have you got the family in any census?

there are far too many Joseph Eastwood marraiges in Lancashire in the appropriate time scale....and one or more Births...perhaps Oldham???

As you can see..there are no Edna's in BMd's..did she have another first/second name?

I cannot see any Josephs and Edna's together in 1911.
As others have said, was this her second name, and so only showing as E (or not at all)?

The only info i have on Joesph and Edna are his parents were William Eastwood born 16 June 1828 and Mary-ann Marland born abt 1836. Joesph was born abt 1878 in Lancashire (possibly) Manchester area, and that he married a lady named Edna. I have all of Joesph's Siblings---

3)Clara Eastwood
4)Lydia Eastwood
5)Hannah Eastwood
6)Mary Eastwood
7)Suzannah Eastwood

I dont have anyother info regarding Edna.

It sounds like they didn't really marry ........ or Edna was a middle name ( but if they married before 1911 her full name should be on the record ... )

as asked, do you know the names of any of their children ?

to look for people in censuses ... which will give more information about them such as a date and place of birth for the wife ... it helps to have information about people who would be living with them ... such as their children

Are you sure that it was Joseph that married Edna - could it have been another of Mary's siblings? (How confident are you on the accuracy of the information?)

I am very confident Patchem, i have a photo of Joesph and Edna together and been given the info that i have from Joesph's sister Mary's grandaughter.

As too Edna,
Edna is the only info i have and i dont know any names of there children

there is only one Edna Eastwood anywhere near the right age in the 1901 and 1911 censuses ... I wondered whether Joseph had perhaps died young ...

but she is in Berkshire and is unmarried and living with her mother / parents


there is also no death of an Edna Eastwood that would fit well

these are the only ones with birthdates that would be at all suited

Samantha I am sure you appreciate that people are trying to help ( and to get all the available information for that purpose ) and so you might want to thank those doing it for what we have tried to find , including the information I have found about family members and locations that could help ..........

patchem and I and probably others are reaching the same conclusions ... Edna was not her 'official' name, or the couple was not married ( not uncommon in a day when divorce was not accessible and one could have had already had a spouse )

I wonder do the family members who have knowledge of this couple know where they lived ? or when or where they died ? about when was the photo taken ? were they known to have been together when they were young ?

for instance this is the closest match in the deaths index for Joseph

Joseph Eastwood abt 1878 Jul-Aug-Sep 1967 Blackpool

the other Joseph Eastwoods born about 1878 did not die in Lancashire

although since census ages can be out by a year or more there is also a possibility like

Joseph Eastwood abt 1876 Jul-Aug-Sep 1952 Oldham Lancashire
