Hello Norma thank you for your message but it is much better if you reply in the thread here ( use the box at the bottom ) so anyone who might help can see

you said that Thomas died in Liverpool in 1940 ... unfortunately two Thomas O'Tooles died in Liverpool in 1940 ... !

Thomas O'toole abt 1876 Apr-May-Jun 1940 Liverpool South Lancashire
Thomas L O'toole abt 1903 Jul-Aug-Sep 1940 Liverpool North Lancashire

he would be the younger one ?

I understand that some of what you have found out is a little sensitive and you want to talk to your aunts and uncles first :-)

but it would definitely help if you knew what part of Australia Martin was in ... I checked records in NSW on line but could not see anything ... also if you can give Martin's year of birth ... Tony Oz might be able to find someting ( but children's births would probably be too late to be accessible because of data protection legislation )

divorce is definitely unlikely given the times and as you say that Cicely and Thomas did not marry, if Martin did have another family in Australia he may not have married either ...

the two likeliest Martin O'Tooles in the 1911 census ( if he was in England )

O TOOLE MARTIN 1896 15 West Derby Lancashire
O TOOLE MARTIN 1901 10 Liverpool Lancashire

Name: Cicely O'toole
Birth Date: 7 Jan 1901
Date of Registration: Dec 1984
Age at Death: 83
Registration district: Birkenhead
Inferred County: Cheshire
Volume: 37
Page: 731

Births Mar 1901
Hodge Cicely W. Derby 8b 343

there is no Thomas O'Toole death of the right age in the same place ... possibly he died earlier, for example there are deaths in Liverpool North in 1968, 1969, 1940, for Thomas O'Tooles who were born in from 1981 to 1903 ... a death in West Derby in 1932 of a Thomas O'Toole born in 1891 ...

there are these two Martin O'Toole deaths

Martin O'toole 1896 Jul-Aug-Sep 1979 Westminster London
Martin O'toole abt 1888 Jul-Aug-Sep 1958 Hammersmith London

having his age from their marriage certificate would be important for tracing him

the name was CICELY not Cecily

Marriages Dec 1919
Hodge Cicely O'Toole W. Derby 8b 467
O'Toole Martin Hodge W.Derby 8b 467

... as I discovered by searching for O'Toole births with mother's name Hodge ... the first child was Cicely 1920 and there were numerous others in W Derby to 1931

do the children's birth certificates give the father's name as Thomas ? how do you know they were cousins ? if you know that then you know the names of their fathers (brothers) ?

Hi Norma.

Might need to suppy a bit more information about your Martin O'Toole.

Where did he marry Cecily Hodge in 1920? ( Country )

There are many Martin O'Toole in Australia, England, Ireland, America.
Heaps to as Immigrants

Why do you think he may have jumped ship in Australia, and do you know what Port and approx year....or which state in Australia

Can you supply his parents names?

Tony ( Australia )

please could you tell us where they were married ??

if you get the marriage certificate it will tell you his father's name ( in England or Wales ) or his parents' names ( in Australia ) if he gave that information, and also his age

for anyone to help they have to have as much information as you have, to start !

it is a good idea to read through the post at the top of the board about 'how to use' the board and give as much information as you have.

I am trying to find information about Martin O'TOOLE. He was married to Cecily Hodge in1920 I believe some time later disappeared. Possibly jumped ship in Australia. There is no evidence of a divorce, but Cicely had children after this and their father appears to be his cousin Thomas O'Toole. Any help with info re either of these men would be appreciated
