I have updated my original post as it may be that John's birth was registered in Worksop, Nottinghamshire instead of Whitewell, Derbyshire.

Thanks for finding those. They seem to have created more questions than they've answered. Looks like Mary was not his mother after all, but his aunt. I shall check her sisters on earlier census returns and see what heppened to them. Maybe one of them died, and that is why John lived with his aunt and grandparents.

Thanks again for your help, Glitter Baby.

****** Extra info now seems to indicate that he may be listed in Worksop, Nottinghamshire instead of Whitwell, Derbyshire. Does anybody have parish records for there? Thanks, Kim.

ORIGINAL POST:-
I wonder if any of you can help me solve this mystery for a friend. I have found out what I can from ancestry, but have hit a wall.

John Parkin appears to be illegitimate. I have traced him, his mother and his maternal grandparents on the 1841, 51, 61, 91, 1901 & 1911 census returns, but cannot find him on the 1871 & 1881 census returns.

Does anybody have any parish records that may record his baptism, or any poor law records, etc? I am trying to find out who John Parkin's father was. It is a family story that Mary worked as a secretary for him before she fell pregnant, and so then left his employment.

Thanks,
Kim.
