Amy died in 1968. Unfortunately from the original of the index her age at death is not easily readable:

Name: Amy C Kane
Date of Registration: Jul-Aug-Sep 1968
Registration district: Manchester
Inferred County: Lancashire
Volume: 10e
Page: 131

Have you got a copy of the certificate of her marriage to John Kane? If so does that indicate both their ages at the time of their marriage? It might also give you details of Amy Cooper Cross and John Kane's fathers which might help you to pin their birth years and families down.

Name: John Kane
Spouse Surname: Cross
Date of Registration: Apr-May-Jun 1919
Registration district: Chorlton
Inferred County: Lancashire
Volume Number: 8e
Page Number: 1755

Another thought bearing in mind that you describe her appearance ect as being very different from that of her parents/siblings might she not have been the couples natural child?

I AM DESPERATE TO FIND THE REGISTRATION OF THE BIRTH OF MY GRANDMOTHER AND I AM FLUMOXED!! ITS BEEN 2 YEARS OF CONTINUOUS SEARCHING TO NO AVAIL! Please read on...
I can not find a registration of the birth of my Grandmother Evelyn Mavis Dodd (nee Kane). Her parents were Amy Cooper Kane (nee Cross) and John Kane. John was from Ireland and married Amy in 1919 in Chorlton Manchester - but my Grandmothers birth record seems to b e non existant. She was born on 29.05.1921. I have found an Evelyn M Cross registed birrth in April, May, June 1921 but her Mothers maiden name is Askew. I have searched the name Askew and found the marraige of a Evelyn M Askew to a Thomas Nix. Thomas Nix died in October 1920. I dont know if this could be a link as the names are so similar. My Grandmothers sibblings births in 1926, 1929 and 1931 are registered as are the deaths of my Grandparents Amy C & John Kane. Amy was born in Belper, Derbyshire IN 1893/4 but again I cant pin down her family on the Census's. The whole 'Cooper-Cross' name has confused me a bit as I dont know if I am searching for Cross, Cooper, Kane or what. My Grandmother was very different to her siblings in outlook, attitude and in physical appearance and she didnt look like either her parents either.. Her parents were already married by the time she was born so I cant understand why her birth isnt reg's. Her Marraige to my Grandfather Thomas Dodd is registered as Evelyn M Kane and her death is registered as Evelyn M Dodd. I dont want to start ordering birth certs and incur massive costs. I am registered to search all records on 2 of the main Geneology search sites and am happy to give you access to these going forward if you can help me find my Grandma's Birth. These registrations to access mass indexes, docs and records have cost a fair amount of money - You could do your own searching on me here-on-in but I'd really appereciate someone with lots of know how and genuine experience to help me unravell this mystery. The further I look into it, the more confused I become. It could be something as simple as a missing birth cert. We do not have her original and nor did my grandfather - we learned this after his death. Evelyn Mavis Dodd (nee Kane). Born 29.5.1921 presumably in Mannchester. I'm also stuck when researching her Father John Kane - there are so many. I dont know his birth year. I know he died around 1960 and Amy C Kane died in 1967 or 1968 . I cant even find evidence of their cremations or thier Burial sites in Southern Cemetary, Manchester.......I LOOK FORWARD TO HEARING FROM YOU AND APPRECIATE ANY HELP OR ADVICE YOU MAY BE ABLE TO OFFER ME.....Many thanks....Dickie Miller :-D
