Can someone give me some advice

For military records - you say he was posted in 1920. If he served after 1920 then his Army records will still be with the MOD and you have to prove his death to be able to apply for them. If he only served up to 1920 and they are not on Ancestry then they won't be at Kew - it will mean that they were destroyed.

Then you need Miliary records at Kew ,oe Dr.Barnado records

I have no information on him at all. Other than the information posted above. I may be that the records were destroyed in WW2. He is just reported as the putative father of my grandmother, who was left in Barnados home.

Do you know who he married..........or who his parents were..........did he have any siblings that you know of?

I have traced my grandmother's father. John McCarthy, R.G.A, Gunner 41449. I have found his medal card on Ancestry and he was awarded the Victory, British and 1915 Star. I think he served in France around 1914. There doesn't seem to be any more information on the medal card. Does anyone know where I may be able to find out his DOB, where he may have died. I know he was posted abroad from Falmouth in 1920. Any assistance greatly appreciated.
