Yvonne or Betty Hoban

Terence Report 12 Jul 2011 20:01

Born around 1893 and residing in Boscombe, Hamps. around 1920. I only have records of the birth of her two children but there doesn't appear to be any records in England & Wales of her birth/marriage or death. I have also searched the Irish Census but no joy. I would be grateful if anyone has access to the Scottish or other records to do a quick look for her. Many thanks.

Was her married name Hoban?
What was the name of her husband?
Names and DOB's of children?

All this info you already have would help in the search ;-)

Thank you for your reply. I have the following information:

On one birth certificate mother is named as 'formerly' Yvonne Hoban and on the other certificate, the mother is named as 'formerly' Betty Hoban which is confusing but the addresses are the same for both birth certificates in Boscombe, so a play on names I think rather than two different people. The father was named Ernest Stoddart, who was in the NZ Army at the time. The births were 1918 and 1919 respectively. I can trace the father but do not have any records of her. She is a mystery. Thank you for your interest. Regards.

When did Ernest die, and could she have married again (if she married a first time)?

Terence

Terence Report 12 Jul 2011 22:05

Ernest died in 1951. Yvonne (Betty) may not have been married to him, although, as the birth certificates refer to her as ' formerly' Hoban, I'm assuming they must have gone through some sort of marriage but I can't find it, nor, anything at all about her. She could have married later and I have searched under her name and that of Stoddart but nothing. Many thanks.

One birth is registered twice, once with surname Hoban, so parents obviously not married.

Excellent pieces of detective work here, and so quickly too. Thank you Choccy, this is the man. I had managed to find quite a bit out about him but it took months and you turn it up in minutes, plus more. Many thanks. Thank you also Brummiejan for looking up Hoban. I will check this one out - there was a family of Hobans in the area but I couldn't find any with the names Yvonne or Betty (or their derivatives). Both births were originally registered under Stoddart (I have copies) but one was changed to Hoban because I think one child went into care and in those days, they split siblings up and did not want them to know one another. Thank you all again for taking the time to help me.

Terence the name wasnt changed to Hoban the lady was registered as Stoddard but as the parents weren't married the record also shows her as Hoban. Its the same GRO ref for both names .whichever surname you order the cert in you get the same one cert, Indicates the parents weren't married at the time of the birth, As the female is the later birth then still indicates the parents werent married at all.

Would guess the fact that the parents weren't married wasnt picked up at the time of Horace's. birth

Just asking - what are the addresses on the birth certs?

Terence Report 15 Jul 2011 16:20

The address is 11 Salisbury Road, Boscombe but I have looked through the Census' for 1911 and before that but there isn't any similar name. Nothing to give me a clue. However, the female was born at 11 Owls Road, Boscombe and I did not know whether this was a nursing home or some relative of Yvonne's. Thank you for your continued interest.

Many thanks. I too had problems via the Census but I will go back to grass roots now and start again in Boscombe. I will close this now and thank you all for your interest and work trying to locate this elusive lady!
