Well,
its certainly consuming my spare time, not quite at your levels of addiction yet but getting there.... only been at it two years and got quite far pretty quick, but once hooked, all my ancestors seemed to go into hiding, bet thats a common complaint from many a poor soul.

"this is supposed to be a hobby and not something that takes over your life, isn't it ????"
- well, only since 1999, it has been a totally addictive hobby, for both OH and myself and he has been an online parish clerk for several years now for some Cornish parishes :-)

It definitely takes over your life Gavin, so you might as well get used to it, LOL.

When I started in 2003 it was supposed to be something that filled in a few hours to take my mind off the fact that my mother had just died and I had time on my hands. It rapidly had me hooked and I spent nearly all day on the computer - to the point where my husband and son used to tell everyone they were on the "family history diet" because I never had time to cook. They would come in from work and I was still in front of the screen!! That lasted for about 5 years and it was only 3 stays in hospital (two knee replacements and an infection in one of them) that made me cut back on the time I spent on this "hobby".

I'm nearly cured of the addiction now - but still need a small "fix" helping out others on here every day as I'm not doing my own research any more.

Be warned - you will definitely get hooked!!

Thanks for you help Kath,
methinks another visit to the archive room in Shrewsbury could be on the cards. Remind me again, this is supposed to be a hobby and not something that takes over your life, isn't it ????

All I can say is that the Benjamin and Sarah in Somerset in the 1851 census are almost certainly Benjamin Pagett and Sarah Lane as their son Thomas on this record has the middle name Lanes (probably just Lane) and the birthplace of Benjamin fits with him coming from Shropshire.

Perhaps the baptisms in Shropshire are to another Benjamin and Sarah although I can't see another couple on the census.

As Kath said.

There is a Benjamin born Wombridge in 1802 - a son?

Joy

Joy Report 12 Jul 2011 21:47

The 80-year-old, formerly glass blower by occupation, has a Sarah with him who is a granddaughter :)

Shall go and have a look for any other.

The Benjamin born Amblecote is the only one in Shropshire in the 1851 census.

The Benjamin in Burnett gives his birthplace as Bridgenorth, Shropshire, so he seems to be the one you are looking for. His wife Sarah gives her place of birth as Brentwood, Essex.

Thanks Kathleen and Joy,
the Benjamin of Burnett is not one that I have been able to locate so that adds proof to Jennys study and could possibly break my link to Ben of 1776 down. The Ben of Amblecote in Joys reply was married to a lady called Rebecca so I have put that to one side and assumed he is a relative of sorts due to the location.

Is there any record of a Benjamin and Sarah in the shropshire areas of a similar age in the census'

Thanks in advance
Gavin

There is a Benjamin, widower, in 1851 in Teagues Lane, Wombridge, born Amblecote, Staffordshire, age 80.

I can't find the same family in the 1841 census.

This Benjamin was born Bridgenorth, Shropshire and his son Thomas was born in Burnett, Somerset

Good evening,
I have, I think, almost solved a year long mystery that in all honesty has been staring me in the face ( feel a bit silly now )
Benjamin Pagett married Sarah Lane in 1801 in Bridgnorth in Shropshire. There has been a one name study done on the Paget name which suggests that they moved to somerset and started a family and died down there, I have never been 100% sure of the accuracy but believed it as it had been part of a research study. The only way I can think that i can clarify the point is by seeing if Benjamin and Sarah Pagett, appear on the 1841 or 1851 census in Bridgnorth/Wombridge, Shropshire , initially, and then see where the Ben and Sarah from burnett in Somerset were born. Would appreciate any help anyone could offer.
Thanks
Gavin
