I have Fosters in my tree and they're sometimes listed as Forster. I think it was the accent. How many times have you seen father written as farther

Carolyn
I think you have the correct marriage certificate but the wrong birth certificate.

This is Elizabeth in 1891 married to Edward Barnes.
She has named her first daughter Margaret which makes me think that she followed the traditional naming pattern and named her after her mother. So she was the daughter of James the blacksmith and Margaret. Her birth maybe wasn't registered as before 1874 the onus was on the Registrar to find the births and get them registered and parents didn't make the effort until they had to after 1874 when they would incur a fine for not registering a birth.
