Thanks Astra,
It didn't occur to me to look in Tree's on here!
So I think my question is now answered and I can have a go at tracing back his father to see if his line fits into my husbands.

What started me off yesterday was.
I was having a go at one of my husbands grandfathers who was in Hastings at 21 Havelock Road in 1888 dissolving a partnership.

Then when I googled the address I found William Reynolds bibliography giving his address as 21a Havelock Road in 1891.
Just started me thinking.

I don't think this could be William Reynolds born 1862, but might be his father I suppose.
Thanks for telling me where Detroit is.It's the birth I really want so that I can find out who his father was,then maybe I can trace the parents back in Britain,hopefully England.

A tree on Ancestry has his birth as 10th August 1862 and his parents as

William Comben Stephens 1818 – 1871
Jessie Isabella Durham 1828 – 1918

Married to Annie Ridpath in 1891 and died in Tunbridge Wells in 1943

Hi
Does any one have access to birth records for America?
If so would you look for this person please

I am looking for the birth of William Reynolds Stephens born Detroit America in 1862

I am trying to establish his parents names,perhaps the mother is nee Reynolds?
Both of the parents are British and returned to Britain when William was a child.

William later became Sir William Reynolds Stephens a famous artist.

This is all I know about him apart from his career info

He may be related somewhere along the line to my husband
