Hi Marie Celeste and Ginny,

Thanks for your replies. Yes, there does seem to be a discrepancy over the middle initial. although it is really the right person. It seems it is a case of father like son, as his father abandoned the family some years earlier and traveled out to Australia to make his fortune and send for the family.

Given that the voyage took roughly 90 days, he must have sailed almost immediately after the wedding.

Cheers
Frank

about Benjamin William Cuffley

Date of Registration: Jan-Feb-Mar 1849
Registration district: City of London

So that looks like him, the middle initial is debatable on the shipping record

Hello Frank, outgoing shipping lists on FindMyPast are only 1890 to 1960.

I must add that divorce for ordinary people in those days was almost unheard of. However, if he legged it straight after the marriage it may have been anulled.

Hi Everyone,
Does anyone have access to the shipping lists between London and Sydney circa January 1876.

It would appear that a distant relative through marriage, Benjamin William Cuffley - he married my great great aunt, Amelia Forrester, on the 26th of January 1876 - arrived in Sydney as a crew member aboard the ‘Alexander Duthie’ on the 28th of April 1876.

I am trying to find out when she ship left for Australia because it seems to me that he must have left very shortly after the marriage.

As Amelia reverted to her maiden name I assume that she either obtained a divorce or annulment.

Any help would be appreciated,

Cheers
Frank
