Hello

For the first time in my searches I've come across a death during WW1 and I'd like to know how I could get to see his service records.
Ralph William George Thompson died 21/3/1918 in the Somme. He was a Company Sergeant Major in the Kings Royal Rifle Corps 7th Bn. His service number was R/6374 and he had a M M award ( all obtained from the CWGC site)
I'm intrigued because I'm not 100% certain he's the relative I'm looking for because there is no age on the records or next of kin information. However there aren't many Ralph William G Thompsons around and he and his wife had no further children after 1912. I cannot find any other death record either. If he signed up or was called up then I'm surprised he would be the rank he was bearing in mind before the war he was a railway porter and later a painter!
Other information I have is that he was born c1881 in Dublin Ireland and married Eugenie Elizabeth Rust in 1900 Nottingham. They had children Florence H b 1901, Eugenie b 1902, Ralph b 1903 Charles William b 1904, Frederick Thomas b 1907, Alice b 1908 and Kate M b 1912.

Does anyone have any access to war records who could perhaps confirm that this soldier is the relation I'm looking for either by confirming birth date and place or next of kin?

Any help would be much appreciated. Many thanks.

His service record is on Ancestry. He was born in Dublin and was a painter by trade when he enlisted. If you PM me your E mail address i will send you access to the original images. It is definitely the correct one as there is a record contained in it signed by Eugenie.

His war record says that on 4 Nov 1914 (medical) he was 34 years 203 days old. Trade - Porter (might be painter)

And it looks as if Eugenie signed for his Warrant on 25 Jan 1918. She lived at 12 Moscow/Loscoe/Roscoe Terrace. Church Drive, Carrington, Nottingham.

Then there's a page that gives details of his widow - Eugenie Elizabeth Thompson. His children. His brother and his 3 sisters.

I've saved that image so if you let me have your e-mail I can send it over.
