I now have both marriage and death certificates in my possession but they don't give much out. According to the marriage certificate his father was also James McCracken, profession was a Farmer but that's all it really gives me. Any tips on how to go back from here to my Irish routes. I was hoping I would get Parish information but no luck |

Thanks Maura - i'd actually got him down as marrying a 'Mary Ann Moseley' but it might be just a spelling error - i'll have a look - thank you. I think i've found his death record so have sent off for a certificate to see what else I can find |

Lisa..Despite the fact you have located him on the 1901 Census you need to obtain his MC to confirm his fathers name equally you need to check out if there were other members of his family in the England prior to his Marriage...(there were lots of McCrackens in the Midlands)...It will be very difficult if not impossible to identify "your" James in Ireland without at least his fathers name.... |

Thanks all, however I have the information from the 1901 census, i'm trying to go backwards from there and track down his birth in Ireland and parents/siblings. I know nothing about my Irish Ancestry - all I know is he was born in County Down. :-) |

I'm am trying to track down my GGGrandfather James McCracken - according to the 1901 census he was born in County Down, Ireland in 1858. He married Mary Ann Moseley in Birmingham in 1881. Due to the fact he was born in ireland i'm unable to track back any further. If anyone has any connections or can advise how I can progress that will be great. |
