Helen Report 20 Jul 2011 11:07

Where is my Frank Townsend on the 1911 census. He was there in 1901 married in 1915 but vanished in 1911. I have tried looking for him under his name plus any others that I can think of e.g. Townhend, F* Townsend etc but with no success. Any help would be appreciated.

I know that he was married in 1915 to Gertude Northam Setherton in Devon (occupation blacksmith), he was born (1885), and lived in Devon.
Just for ref.:

Setherton Gertrude N Townsend Newton A. 5b 384
Townsend Frank Letherton Newton A. 5b 384

On the 1901 census he was living in Christow Tiverton Devon but he is not with his parents in 1911.

Dear Lindsey,
thank you for your replies. I do not think that the second reply is my Frank Townsend as his father is Robert not William. I am less sure of the first one as my Frank Townsend was born, lived and died in Devon, so why would he put Somerset? However in 1915 he was a blacksmith so he would have had the strength to be a showmans labourer. I will look at this record dirrectly as it was one that I had not found myself.
Thank you for looking. Helen

p.s. I am at the library so I have limited time left to reply today but I will answer as soon as I am able...thank you

I can only come up with the same option on Lindsey and I suspect this could be right even though the place of birth is different as search on internet shows it is only approx 20 miles difference between the two places? I have seen alot of records where across 5 different census, they name a different place within the same or a bordering county on every different one!

Thank you Keely for your reply and information. I was able to look at the census image that Lindsey kindly found and as there is no one else looking likely, the distance as you pointed out is very close and he was definately alive in 1911 I think that it must be my missing Frank!
Another frustrating mystery solved. Thank you very much indeed.
