I've 2 X great G.F Archibald McCleland Allan born ( married Caroline Eliza Flack in Australia in 1856) in 183/4 Glasgow Lanarkshire to William Allan & Margaret Fletcher ( parents names as sourced from Marriage& Death Cert's ). Problem ? Can't find any record of said William & Margaret in that time frame. Father William may have been a surveyor.
Any clues etc would be great. Thanks all.

Hi all.. up this morning & thanks for all contributions, will work through the posts & see how they fit.. looks like it will akll add a bit more re Archibald's early days but as Caroline points out to me.. details re parents William & Margaret likely to be more difficult. I'd hoped the McCleland middle name might have been a clue re Parents William & Margaret

You could try the Mitchell Library for a poor relief record. Yes i though McCleland could be his mother's maiden name.
