JB Hayward & Sons Gazetteer: [3122: 3113-2337] a railway station on the Cape Town-De Aar line in the Cape Colony (Richmond district; Northern Cape), 40 km north-west of Richmond. Variant; Merriman (name change on 1 March 1912 and as used on the 1: 250,000 map). The station was a base for British columns; in January 1902 it was occupied by Maj J. Vaughan's column and in March by that of Lt-Col B.J.C. Doran. HMG IV pp.457 and 463 (map no.63).

Pinnegar J. (Sen.) Private R.A.S.C. (M.T.)
Volunteering in June 1915, he was drafted to the Western Front three months later and served in various sectors. After taking part in the Battles of Loos, Albert, Vimmy Ridge, the Somme, Arras, Ypres, Passchandaele and Cambrai he was gassed in 1917 and invalided home. He was afterwards stationed in Scotland until his demobilization in February 1919 and holds the 1914-1915 Star and the General Service and Victory Medals. 148 Meeting House Lane, Peckham, S.E.15.

Pinnegar J. (Jnr.) Private Canadian M.G.C.
He volunteered in January 1916 and after his training was detained on important duties in England until 1918 when he was drafted to the Western Front. He took part in the Battle of the Somme and other important engagements until the cessation of hostilities and was then sent with the Army of Occupation to Cologne. Demobilized on his return home in May 1919 he holds the General Service and Victory Medals.
