Hi all,
Here is a rumour in the family that Peter kearney c1896 was a roman catholic Archbishop of either England, Ireand or most probably America.
Can anyone help.

In the 1930 United States Federal Census, living at 8000 Marshfield Avenue, I found:

Peter Kearney Isabell Chicago, Cook, IL abt 1894 Illinois Head
Isabell Kearney Peter Chicago, Cook, IL abt 1897 Wife
Peter J Kearney Peter, Isabell Chicago, Cook, IL abt 1925 Son
Rose Mary Kearney Peter, Isabell Chicago, Cook, IL abt 1929 Daughter

Household Members: Name Age
Peter Kearney 36
Isabell Kearney 33
Peter J Kearney 5
Rose Mary Kearney 4/12


Without any other information it's difficult to pinpoint WHICH Peter Kearney could be yours.

Hi Mike*,
Sorry for the delay, (Problems).
My Peter was born in Castlebar, Co. Mayo, 1896.
His Parents were Peter b 1852 and Honor (norah) McHale ( they stayed in Ireland.1860. He had a sister Catherine who married Otto Weiss and lived in Chicago, cook Illinois.

Ann...I am quite sure if you had an Archbishop in the family you would know about it..!!
Given Peter's dob he wouldn't have left a Seminary until he was about 25-27....then spending many years as a Priest etc...You would be needing to look at about 1940/50 at the earliest for his becoming a Bishop let alone an Archbishop...which brings you up to the 1960's .....hence my comment...
Catherines obituary would be something I would try and find.....it would make mention of a brother being an Archbishop...

Ann...Are you certain of info.relating to Peter (b 1896) and family..if you check out the 1901Census you will find no Peter Kearney/Carney (1896) listed for Co Mayo...there is none for Ireland with mother Honor (Nora) father Peter...there is however a Peter Kearney and family... (these do not appear on 1911 Census)

There is another Peter and family next door and also McHales plus another Kearney living with the O'Hora's....

Hi Eringobragh 1916,
Sorry, just switched on.
My cousin said that her great uncle Patrick Kearney b 1897 said that one of his brothers was 'he thinks' an Archbishop. The only other boy in his family was Michael b 1884, my grandfather, and he wasn't.
Perhaps he had got it wrong.
