There are 3 trees on Ancestry,2 of which give Francis's father as also Francis, but I think there is a generation missing as it puts his birthyear as 1517 Lindley (near Otley)
There are a string of ancestors going back to AD 993 with an Adam Clapham. His son Arthur was born 1024 in CLAPHAM which is near Settle
There is no spouse for Francis b 1517 but all the other generations seem to be complete

If you mean Lindley in Yorkshire Justin, the present parish church was not built until 1830. I think you will find that bmd's came under Huddersfield parish church.

You will need to enquire of the West Yorkshire Archive Service in Wakefield.

The records for Huddersfield only go back to 1562.

If only most of us could that far back ;-)

It is highly probable that any parish records have long since been lost, damaged, destroyed. But you never know.

You could try www.genuki.org.uk. They don't have a Linley Yorks listed (as a place) but do have

Limley (W) : Kirkby Malzeard
Lindley (W) : Huddersfield
Lindley (W) : Otley

You could try that site and see if you can get any further.

Hi Just

I am afraid you are coming to the end of the time for parish registers which means that you will now need to start looking into parish and other records.

What survives for a particular parish will vary so a good look in the relevant County Records Office online catalogues will help.

From my 'crib sheet' records that you may need to look at for this period...

Deeds (from 11c)
Feet of Fines (from late 12c to early 19c)
Manor Court Rolls (from 13c)
Inquisition Post Mortem (from early 13c to early 17c)
Lay Subsidies (from early 13c to end of 17c)
Quarter Sessions (from mid/late 14c)
Probates (from mid/late 14c)
Chancery Proceedings (from late 14c to late 19c)
Visitations (from 16c to early 17c)
Apprentices and Freemen (from 16c)
School and University Registers (from 16c)
Marriage Licences (from 16c)
Parish Registers (from early/mid 16c)
Bishops Transcripts (from late 16c to mid/late 19c)

Obviously not all would necessarily apply to our research but I just copied and pasted the relevant period :-)

Good luck
Chris
