Hi All,

I suspect a Thomas McGrath b c1884 (17 in 1901) Corr, nr Dumaspil, Coalisland, County Tyrone emigrated to Canada between 1901 and 1911.
It could have been up to 1929 when family story has another relative going to his uncle in Canada. That relative sailed Belfast -Quebec.
Can Thomas McGrath be found on a passenger list?
He wasn't married in 1901. I have no idea if he was travelling with anyone else.

Thanks,

Simon.

Have you found him on the 1911 census?
If he is then you know he left after 1911 this will narrow your search.

The Canadian 1911 census only has one Thomas McGrath of the right age but he was born Nova Scotia.

The GRO(I) index thru 1958 (excl N. Ireland post-partition) is available at:
https://www.familysearch.org/s/collection/list#page=1®ion=EUROPE

One can purchase certs (or cheaper still, the uncertified images of the rego) via:
http://www.groireland.ie/

The Irish 1901/1911 censuses are free at:
http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/search/

Margee has given the URL for Canada's 1911 census. Canada has a 92 y closure law on its census, so 1921 won't be available until 2014.

In view of Catherine post, it's worth pointing out that the Dominion of Newfoundland was not part of Canada until the late 1940s, so its censuses now fall under provincial law, not federal law, and its 1921, 1935, 1945 census are available (at least partly) online. See:
