The parents of James are John and Emma............(The 1881 census that Maddie posted)
To avoid duplicate research Jayne.........it would have been best to have added this information to your original Setherton thread.

Rose Report 26 Aug 2011 17:15

Thanks everyone.
I did add it to my original thread as you have attached pricklyholly but no one replied so I thought it had been missed as it was an addition. sorry if it caused any problems.
I will do some double checking and if I ahve anymore relevant information I will get back here.

I could not find any marriage, children or death for him so only know his parent John and Emma.

Maybe this is why your James (or one of the two) is possibly not on the 1901 census. He appears to have joined up in 1897. He was discharged in 23 November 1907 and is listed as being in South Africa between 1899 and 1903.

His father is listed as John Seatherton of Bishops Nympton. As this one I found listed as Leatherton in 1911 married in 1904 I presume this could well be the James who was in Wales in 1911 and married later

Amazing I have just discover that the above James the Mole Catcher is a relative!!!
He is the son of my great great grandfathers brother!!!
so brummiejan and Maddie, it is a shame we cannot "time travel" and find out how he did it..

Thanks again for the help- and it all fits in in the end.
