Find Ancestors

I'm trying to find a birth record for William Filkins from the Barnet area who was born around 1885-1886. I found what I thought was his birth record but on the birth certificate the name of the mother is different (Elizabeth instead of Amelia). As far as I know she didn't have a middle name so don't know why she would be named as Elizabeth on the birth certificate if it was the same person, but I can't find any other records that fit.

Anyone have any information on this person that might help?

Thanks for the information. The one in the 1911 census looks most likely.

The birth record you found is the same one I have where the mother's name does not seem to match, but there don't seem to be any other records that fit either! I have even checked the years each side but still no other records.

She married a Frederick Hughes so that is the correct one, but she had William before she married, I don't know the name of the father which is why I ordered the birth certificate hoping it would give that information.

I would ask for the birth cert to be checked.

I assume she was a single mother.
Looking on freebmd, is no Elizabeth Filkins old enough to have had a child in 1885


Not usual for father to be named if child is registered under Mother's maiden name.

From the B/C that you got what was the Dads name on there......If you look PP has post the 1891 census where there is a William with a Mum called Eliza

So it looks like the B/C you got isn't the right one

They are defiantly Fitkin/s so can discount that 1891 up above
