Have you tried the search trees to see if you can find a connection?

It is very unlikely that anyone related will see this post in the near future unfortunatly

Thanks for all your help I have found it is a little difficult finding out about Irish roots as a lot of info has been lost. I thought someone might have had connection with this branch.

I can find no Sin*ot* born 1825-1845 in Ireland on a census before the 1861 Census

BUT there are quite a few Sin*ot* born 1790-1810 in Ireland on the 1841 and 1851 Censuses

None named Martin or Walter though!

This implies to me that Catherine and Walter Poell, and their families, arrived in Liverpool sometime after 1851.

Unfortunately, there are no passenger lists for ships from ireland to England

I think you will have to do more searching on irish sites.

According to the 1861 Census, Walter P Sinnotte was born in ireland

and Eliza was 10 years older than him despite what it says on the marrigae certificate

But I don't see the link with Catherine that would be the reason for him being a witness at her wedding!

The witnesses on Catherine and Daniel's marriage certificate, as seen on ancestry appear to be

Walter Powell Sinnotte and Eliza Sinnotte

NOT Martin and Eliza Sinnott, as you said in your opening post

It is also notable that Catherine is shown as Full Age, ie over 21, while Daniel is a Minor, ie under 21, and thus needed parental permission.

I wonder if Walter is the younger brother to Catherine?. The spelling does seem to be Sinnotte though with the E at the end.

With Walter and Catherine missing off the BMD this suggests either they were born before registration or they were born elsewhere. As previously mentioned Sinnotte is of Irish descent. I would suggest they have come over from N.Ireland and settled in Liverpool (as have many before them)

I am going to look for Walter now on the census's

No obvious sign of the family on the 1851 census of England. As you are probably already aware the surname Sinnott seems to have Irish Roots.

My ggrandmother was Catherine Sinnott b1839. She married Daniel Wadsworth 27/08/1857 at Liverpool. On the marriage cert her father is Martin Sinnott and Martin and Eliza Sinnott as witnesses.

Daniel and Catherine sailed to Australia in 1859 and then on to New Zealand in1861.

Can anyone help with Catherine's ancestors?
