To all the kind people that replied to my original post after a day spent searching everything that I could think of plus the info given to me I am of the opinion that Shirley might have the key in that Letitia made up her father's occupation and possibly his name because she was illegitimate. I have researched every Letitia, Let and Lettice plus other variations in the spelling but cannot track her down, wonder what she was up to? |

Do you know when she died, as that might help with age? |

Did she give her father as deceased on the marriage cert, or she may have been under age but said 21 so as not to need parental consent for the marriage. Do the witnesses give any clue |

It certainly points to her being illegitimate and making up a fathers name for her marriage. I would have thought having father as a surgeon she would have been educated . |

Hi, can anyone please advise me, I am trying to establish just where my gt grandmother was born and who her parents were. What I know is that her maiden name was according to her marriage certificate Letitia Harris and her father was said to be a Thomas Harris a surgeon. Letitia obviously could not write her name as she just signed with a X, if her father was a surgeon would she not have been educated? anyway there is no mention on the certificate of where she was born only that she married in Glamorgan at the Nolton Chapel in the parish of Coyty and her residence was Old Castle, Bridgend, and that she was of full age. She married a William Davies who came from Pembrokeshire. |
