Thank you..that would explain why the census says Cumberland.I had no idea there was one in Wales..I think it seems pretty safe to say he was Welsh then

Well,in 1861 he was a policeman and in 1871 a laundreyman...so he seems to have changed jobs a bit

As advised - GR do NOT have records, nor do they transcribe them.

There are far better options than GR for census searches..............

Thank you.That is him on the 1861..
The other 1851 census could be him.. i just looked for people the same age as he gave in 1861/71 but of course,it probably isn't exactly right.

The confusion with regards to his birthplace may arise from the fact that there is a PENRITH in Cumberland...............as well as the lesser-known one in Pembrokeshire

If he was in the Workhouse, and gave his birthplace as Penrith, it would be safe to think that it would have been assumed that he meant the one in Cumberland

1871 she is alone and Simon seems to be in the workhouse infirmary.He died in 1872.
