Hello Linda, if you look back here, you'll see Henry in 1871 and 1881 in the Census, posted by Margee and GlitterBaby...(father Henry, a Brass Finisher on both)

By 1881 Charlotte may have been working away from home.
Have you ruled out this family please?

It wasn't uncommon for people at that time not to be able to read or write but it doesn't follow that they would be living in the workhouse. He could well be an electrician without being able to read and write.

Thank you for all your replies. I wasnt aware that pre 1875 that it wasnt illegal not to register births... learn somthing new each day.
I saw the marriage Banns between her and Henry Lillywhite so estimated her DOB was 1864 seen the Baptisms for the children as Chris Ho listed and census listed same - this is how I came to find out about Charlotte stating being born Essex.
But plot thickens apart from not being able to find Charlotte Brannan on any census after she was born 1864ish, same applies to Henry Lillywhite her husband my ggf. Once married in 1882 they appear but pre this cant find either of them on any census. There is one census where the surname is spelt different but unsure if same.
Another thing which makes me ponder is on Henry and Charlottes Marriage Banns where he signs hes name its marked as "his cross" .. was he illterate? but hes profession is maked as an Electrician....
Im fairly new to this and still learning but throw this one out to see if anyone can answer.. My thought is Henry is not showing on any census in the area he says he was born (as there are many Henry Lillywhites) pre his marriage .. he seems to have signed his name on his marriage banns with a "X".. could it be his family were poverty stricken and in a work house or similar institue.. If that was the case was there any census records for people living in these places ?? Or does anyone know a site where records are kept for viewing on line ??
Thanks for all your help.

Yes, of course, you're right, Glitter, I really jumped to conclusions there. But that is our Henry, the address is the same as the marriage registration.

This looks like Henry & Charlotte in 1881 but they're listed as son & daughter but adress is same as on marriage registration, 9 Ann St., and at the same address are William & Mary Ralph who were the witnesses at the wedding.

Trying to find record of above Birth. States on Cenus when she married Henry Lillywhite she was born in "ESSEX NL ENGLAND" but when I search records can not find no record of her birth. Know her father was called George as listed in marriage banns. Can anyone shed any light on above or explain why her DOB is not listed. Thanks Linda
