Danny,

There is an online 'ask a librarian', they will do lookups in newspapers for deaths etc., they also do Electoral Roll lookups.

I wondered about remarriage ... but she would have been 70 yrs old :-)

I think we just can't find her death because it isn't accessible in any online database

qld deaths index only goes to 1964 ... and there she is in 1963 !

chrissiex Report 20 Oct 2011 21:11

Danny it is hardly that you can't get any help, it is that people have tried to find information and failed

Queensland deaths go only to 1964
NSW to 1980 but no record there
I found nothing at ryersonindex

I had missed your question about how to make contact

the one thing not to do is send a standard form message saying 'please may I see your tree' :-) nobody likes to get them

I would say briefly what you know about your William, that he was born 1904 with the name King but switched to Beverley, you are wondering whether he might be a grandson of Ebenezer ... hm, maybe ask whether they know the date of William Colin Ebenezer Beverley's marriage or where he lived at the time

everyone involved is deceased now ... hard to say how direct descendants might take news of an unknown line, but it isn't a unique situation

Ebenezer had one other male child

1891/C5029 birth
Cyril Thomas Augustus Beverley
Ebenezer
Margaret Waters

1931/C724 marriage
Beverley Cyril Thomas Augustus
Ferguson Enid Marion

he was too young to be the father of William 1904 so it's William Collin Ebenezer Beverley you're interested in

the fact that your William was named William, he changed his name to Beverley, he was born the same year 20-yr-old William Beverley married ... I think you're on a very reasonable track there

for finding info about Rachel you have a few surnames to consider

MeJoy75 posted births and marriages for two of her children

1933/B16474
Latz Sidney
Eve Violet Ellen

1932/B13854
Eve Raphael Joseph
Haines Maud

try the phone book for their children and grandchildren ( and search at this site of course )

http://www.whitepages.com.au/search/residential

5 Latz listings in Queensland
... 61 Eve listings

two people here at this site have this person in their tree

Sidney Latz 1909 Brisbane Qld Australia

so he is the son-in-law of Rachel if I am following

one of those people and another person have

Violet Eve 1912 Brisbane, Queensland

and then that second person has

Raphael Eve 1909 Brisbane, Queensland

and that person and another have a Raphael Eve 1883, presumably his father

you are not doing your tree searches once you have names ?

am I missing something ? the person who has Violet Eve and Raphael Eve also has

Rachel King 1885 Brisbane

that person may be a direct descendant of Rachel King Eve Jolliffe through one of her Eve children

one other thought re William King/Beverley

he may actually have used Beverley most of his life including before 1939 and only used King when he had to because it was his 'official' name, and then he formally switched to Beverley

Okay I can't get any help regarding Rachel's death, what about the whereabouts of William Norman King on any electoral roll in between Queensland and Victoria before his name change in 1938??

I can find him as William Beverly with his wife after 1939 but pre-1939 he's a mystery...

Danny Report 19 Oct 2011 11:34

I've looked everywhere to no avail. Any recommendations?

Danny Report 19 Oct 2011 00:05

Is anyone able to help with finding the death date of Rachel King?

Rachel Amelia King b 1884 in Queensland, Australia
Married Raphael Moses Eve in 1906
Married Frank William Jolliffe in 1929

Last I can find of her is below

Name: Rachel Amelia Jolliffe
Gender: Female
Electoral Year: 1958
State: Queensland
District: Lilley
Subdistrict: Banyo

Cheers.

Hey Helen,

That second one you posted, with the Next of Kin being Sybil Beverly, that is William and Sybil is his wife who he married in 1939.

Very interesting ideas Chrissie. I had considered that and looked up other BEVERLY / BEVERLEY's in the area at the time and did find him. How are these normally approached? Contact someone within the tree and see if any of the family secrets were passed down and they knew of an extra marital child?

Thanks guys :)

chrissiex Report 17 Oct 2011 15:22

I might wonder whether he knew his father's name and changed to that name as an adult, this was ( and is ) not too uncommon

this person could be interesting

birth
1884/C3575
William Collin Ebenezer Beverley
father Ebenezer
mother Margaret Waters

marriage
1904/C1101
Beverley William Colin Ebenezer
Martin Elizabeth Jane

no births to 1914

death
1955/C1740
William Colin Ebenezer Beverley
father Ebenezer
mother Margaret Waters

wife's death
1940/B48877
Elizabeth Jane Beverley
father Frederick James Thorne Martin
mother Ellen Dascombe

the marriage in 1904 coincides with the birth of William King, possibly the pregnancy was not known when he married, for example (if the marriage was earlier in 1904), or he married despite it ...

someone at genesreunited has Ebenezer Beverley 1860 and William Beverly 1884 Queensland in their tree

That'd be great Joy. I'm actually having a lot of trouble finding a death note for Rachel as KING, EVE or JOFFILLE. If you get a chance if you could help with that that'd be awesome too.

Cheers.

Your welcome. I will try & have a look tomorrow to see if I can find anymore information.

Danny Report 17 Oct 2011 12:02

Thanks Joy. I did look up your info and I'm confident that the Rachel born in 1884 is the right one. As you mentioned, she was the only one born in Queensland at the time.

I also believe from stories passed down that she was born in Australia and wasn't an immigrant so that fits.

Thanks for the help and advice!

Cheers

Rachel Amelia King was the only 1 born in Queensland between 1880 and 1890,

Maybe, someone might be able to help with Electoral Rolls to see if they are living at the same address.

There is a possibility that he found out later in life who is father was, then changed his name accordingly.

Danny Report 17 Oct 2011 11:11

Thanks Joy. It's a tough one not knowing for sure if that's the same Rachel. I was hoping it would be 'simple' and she married a Beverly and William changed his name accordingly.

No such luck I think.

Back to the drawing board! I'll keep the above in mind :)

Hi Astra,

I thought the same, however when I bought the birth certificate, it has the note on the back stating the name change, date etc.

Also, as you can see from your post - the registration numbers are the same.

I guess they must re-enter the birth record under the new name so their certificates can be found by each name?

Cheers,

Astra

Hi guys,

Looking for some help with my Great Grandfather.

Born KING, William Norman on 8 October 1904 in Brisbane, Queensland, Australia (reg: 1904/9181).

Changed his name to BEVERLY, William on 25 May 1938 in Victoria, Australia.

Mother's name on birth certificate is KING, Rachel, father UNKNOWN.

I haven't been able to find any electoral information for him as William KING. Also unable to find anything on his mother (born 1885).

I know they lived in Turbot Street Refuge Home in Brisbane when William was born but that's it until he married in Victoria in 1939.

Is there anyone that can provide any assistance? I'm looking into whether there's anything BMD Victoria can give me about his name change. Other than that, got me stumped!

Cheers,
Danny
